Andrew Paul Montgomery, affectionately known as Andy, passed away on August 12, 2026, at the age of 43. Born on September 23, 1982, Andy lived in Melbourne, Florida, and leaves behind a lifetime of laughter, creativity, accomplishments, and memories that will be cherished by all who knew and loved him.

Andy was a one-of-a-kind person—funny, creative, athletic, and full of personality. He had a passion for sports, particularly basketball, and was an exceptional athlete. During his years at Riverside High School in Painesville, Ohio, Andy made history as the first basketball player to letter as a ninth grader. He went on to establish himself as an outstanding basketball player.

Of all the roles Andy held in his life, being a father to his son, Peyton Paul Montgomery, was among the most important to him. Andy loved spending time with Peyton and treasured the memories they made together.

He enjoyed taking Peyton to the beach, playing arcade games with him, and finding opportunities to simply spend time together. But more than anything, Andy loved watching Peyton play sports. He was incredibly proud of his son and loved being there to cheer him on, encourage him, and share in his accomplishments. Watching Peyton compete was something that brought Andy tremendous happiness and pride.

Family was incredibly important to Andy, and his relationships with those closest to him remained strong throughout his life, regardless of distance.

Andy had a particularly close relationship with his parents. He would tell anyone who would listen that his father, Dale, was the greatest man in the world. His father was his role model, and the admiration and love Andy had for him were unmistakable.

Andy and his mother, Bonnie, shared a special bond that distance could never diminish. There were times when they spoke on the phone almost every day, keeping connected and sharing the everyday moments of life. No matter how many miles separated them, they remained close.

Andy also looked up to his big brother, Adam. Growing up, the two were “thick as thieves,” sharing a bond that only grew deeper with time. Age and distance never changed their relationship. Their conversations continued throughout the years, sometimes stretching well into the late hours of the night and early hours of the morning. Their brotherhood was a constant in both of their lives.

Andy adored his nieces and nephews—Blaze, Ryker, Valen, William, and Ruby. He loved talking with them on the phone, hearing their voices, and listening to their stories. Their lives, adventures, and experiences brought him genuine joy, and he treasured every conversation with them.

Andy is survived by his beloved son, Peyton Paul Montgomery; his mother, Bonnie Montgomery; his father, Dale Montgomery, and stepmother, Elizabeth Montgomery; his brother, Adam Montgomery, and sister-in-law, Kaylie Montgomery; his step-brother, Dean VanDemark; and his step-sister, Bridget VanDemark. He is also survived by his beloved nephews and niece.

Andy will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him. He leaves behind more than accomplishments and records—he leaves behind stories, laughter, long conversations, shared adventures, and the lasting impression of a man who loved his family deeply.

His greatest legacy will be the people he loved, especially his son, and the countless memories he created with them. His humor, creativity, athletic spirit, devotion to his family, and unforgettable personality will live on in the hearts of those who loved him.

Rest in peace, Andy. You were deeply loved, you were immensely proud of your son, and you will be deeply missed.
