Deborah A. Schaefer-Keating, lovingly known as Debby, passed away peacefully with her husband by her side. She will be remembered as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend whose kindness and warmth touched all who knew her.
Debby was the beloved wife of Robert "Bobby" Keating, with whom she shared 36 wonderful years together, including 25 years of marriage. Together, they built a beautiful life filled with love, laughter, and cherished memories.
She was a proud and loving mother to Kris Nichter (Candy) and a devoted grandmother to Cole and Katy, who brought her endless joy. She was also a loving aunt to many nieces and nephews. Debby treasured time with her family and friends and found great happiness simply being with those she loved.
Born and raised in Toledo, Ohio, Debby was the daughter of Shirley and Robert Schaefer. She is survived by her brother, Bruce Schaefer (Denise), and was predeceased by her sister, Beverly and brother-in-law Paul Vavruska. Debby moved to Melbourne, Florida, where she met the love of her life. She embraced the Florida lifestyle and enjoyed spending time in Jensen Beach with her brother Bruce and sister-in-law Denise, boating, and riding on the motorcycle with Bobby. One of her greatest joys was taking walks with her beloved pup, Fynn.
Debby cherished her close circle of friends. Whether meeting for lunch, participating in her book club, gathering with the Steel Magnolias group, or attending her Republican group, she valued friendship deeply and brought laughter and light wherever she went.
Debby will be remembered for her loving heart, her joy in bringing people together, and her unwavering devotion to those she loved. Her legacy of kindness and the beautiful memories she created will live on in the hearts of her family and friends.
Friends and family will gather from 4:00PM – 8:00PM, Sunday, June 21, 2026, at Island Funeral Home 405 S Courtenay Parkway Merritt Island, FL 32952. Funeral services will begin at 12:00PM Monday, June 22, 2026 at the First Baptist Church of Brevard 4300 North Wickham Road, Melbourne, Florida 32935. Visitation will be held one hour prior. Entombment to follow at Florida Memorial Gardens US-1 Rockledge, FL.
