Obituary

Lee was born in Camilla, GA on January 9, 1938. She was the 14th child

of sixteen brothers and sisters born to John Wesley Hendley Jr. and

Rutha Mae Fullins Hendley. She was preceded in death by 12 siblings:

Mary Bryant, Ida White, Ada Jackson, Arthur Hendley Sr., Nathaniel

Hendley, Willie Mae Sinclair, Cornelius James Hendley, Mattie Sarah

Hendley, Julia E. Butler, Ethel Ruth Brown, John Wesley III, and

Governor Hendley.

She leaves to mourn her three siblings: Lula Hendley, Margarite

Pickett, and Lottie Hendley. A host of nieces and nephews also survive

her, including the Butler family; the Sinclair family; and the

families of Ada Jackson, Arthur Hendley Sr., Mary Bryant, Nathaniel

Hendley, Cornelius Hendley, Mattie Sarah Hendley, Julia Butler, Ethel

Ruth Brown, John Hendley III, and Governor Hendley.

Lee came in contact with Jehovah’s Witnesses in December 1950 through

her older sisters, Ida White and Mattie Hendley. She dedicated her

life to Jehovah in 1954. After graduating from high school, she and a

young sister, Ann Thomas Houston, from Long Branch, New Jersey,

received an assignment from the New York Branch to serve where the

need is great. Their first stop was Harriman, Tennessee; from there,

they were moved to Knoxville, Tennessee. She continued pioneering for

many years. She moved to the Melbourne Florida Beachside Congregation

in 2001.

Lee loved to keep busy. She worked in her yard, decorated her house,

and fed her cats. She enjoyed company and entertaining friends. We

will surely miss her barbecued baby back ribs.

Revelation 21:4 assures us that we will see her soon. Leroy, as some

referred to her — you will be missed.
