Obituary

A Superman, confidant, best friend, and loving husband—and proud Marine—was called home to guard the gates of paradise on July 4, 2026.

No one loved more freely than Eric. He ran headfirst into our family and never looked back, never carrying a single regret. He loved with his whole heart, gave without hesitation, and made each of us feel safe, cherished, and deeply loved.

Eric loved harder, laughed louder, and gave his whole heart to his family. He loved them as his own, and they loved him just as fiercely. To Eric, family was never defined by blood but by commitment, loyalty, and unconditional love.

He served honorably in the United States Marine Corps from 1981 to 1987, exemplifying the values of duty, honor, and commitment. Following his military service, he dedicated 21 years to the Space Shuttle program in orbiter maintenance. After his career with the Shuttle program, he continued his lifelong commitment to public service as a Correctional Officer with the Brevard County Sheriff's Office for 10 years. Having faithfully served his country and his community throughout his life, he eventually retired, leaving behind a legacy of dedication, integrity, and selfless service. His family is immensely proud of his many accomplishments and his service to our country.

In his later years, Eric fought a long and difficult battle with cancer with quiet courage, unwavering strength, and remarkable determination. He never sought sympathy or asked for pity, choosing instead to face every challenge with dignity and on his own terms. His resilience and steadfast spirit were an inspiration to those who knew and loved him.

Eric is survived by:

His beloved wife, Donna Carroll Fowler. His daughters, Kimberly Rodriguez (Melissa) and Jennifer Venuto (Paul). His mother, Mary Lou Torquato. His brother, Ross Torquato (Brandy). His niece, Antonia. His cherished granddaughters, Summer K. Moore, daughter of Jennifer, and Kinsley R. Rodriguez, daughter of Kimberly. His brothers-in-law, David Carroll (Cassie) and Roger Carroll (Dawn). His nieces and nephews, Daniel Carroll (Kaylee), Kathryn Kazemfar (Alex), Jason Carroll, Eli Gipson, and Hannah Gipson.

He was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Kristina M. R. Moore, and his beloved mother-in-law, Rose Carroll.

Eric's passing leaves an enormous void in the hearts of his family and all who had the privilege of knowing and loving him. Though he is no longer with us, his legacy of service, strength, integrity, and unwavering love for his family will live on in the memories of those whose lives he touched.

"Someday we'll find it, the rainbow connection, the lovers, the dreamers, and me."
