Obituary

Melbourne, FL- Harry Edward Cannon III died at Kindred Hospital in Melbourne, FL on Thursday, September 10 at 79 years of age. Harry was born in Columbus, GA. He had an interesting life as the child of an Air Force Officer, having been stationed in England, Germany, numerous bases in the US, and Kennedy Space Center on Cape Canaveral. He attended high school in Melbourne, FL and Augustana Academy in Canton, SD. He graduated from the University of South Florida in 1975 and attended the Lutheran School of Theology (LSTC) in Chicago, IL and Luther Seminary in St Paul, MN. Harry worked as intern pastor at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in St Paul, MN and a vicar pastor at both Peace Lutheran Church in Palm Bay, FL and Advent Lutheran Church in Melbourne, FL. Most recently he was a member of the Holy Trinity Episcopal Church in Melbourne, FL.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lt. Colonel Harry Edward Cannon, Jr. and Anne Hardin Cannon. He is survived by ex-wife, Susan Glazier of Palm Bay FL; son, Gregory Cannon (Nicole) of Palm Bay, FL; daughter, Mara Cannon-Brooks (Gilberto) of Land O Lakes, FL; daughter, Hanna Southern (Christopher) of Palm Bay, FL; son, Bennett Cannon of Palm Bay, FL; sister, Jan Morris of Tampa FL; and seven grandchildren- Nathanial, Aleksander, Andrew, Braydon, Olivia, Beric, and Cole.

Harry’s gift of intellect and love of learning was present in every aspect of his life. It was rare to see him without a book and the knowledge to discuss the book with friends and family. He was heavily influenced by the year he spent backpacking as a young adult through Europe, visiting churches and staying at monasteries. Harry had a great desire to serve the community- visiting hospitals and nursing homes, working with people with disabilities, and listening and being present with those who were struggling.

Harry will be missed by his family, friends, and fellow congregants.

Harry’s Memorial will be in the chapel at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church on Saturday, September 19, 2026 at 11am.
