CAPT. Jerold Russell, USN (Ret.) November 30, 1945 – December 29, 2025
A much-beloved partner, father, grandfather, and brother passed away on December 29, 2025, at the St. Francis Inpatient Hospice Facility in Melbourne. He stoically confronted his Parkinson's Disease for ten years.
Jerry Russell entered the United States Navy through the NROTC program, graduating from Cornell University in 1967 with a BS in Materials Science and Engineering. Following tours on both diesel and nuclear submarines, Capt. Russell reported to the US Naval Academy as an instructor in the Seamanship and Tactic Department. He then received his MS Degree in Computer Systems Management from The George Washington University. He reported to the staff of the Chief of Naval Operations as Projects Section Head in the Strategic Submarine Division in Washington, DC in 1977.
Jerry transferred to the Naval Ready Reserve in 1986 during which time he commanded two Naval Reserve units. He was recalled to active duty at the Pentagon in 1990-1992. His civilian employment included positions with Naval Sea Systems Command and the Navy Strategic Systems Programs Office. He relocated to Florida in 2006 to join the Naval Ordnance Test Unit as a Division Head.
Since retirement, CAPT. Russell became involved with the Brevard Parkinson's Support Group and sat on the Advisory Board of the Brevard Parkinson's Alliance.
He is survived by his partner of 25 years, Naomi Levy; his daughter, Laura Salikof, and her husband, David; and his beloved grandsons TJ and Matthew. He leaves two sisters, Elizabeth Page and Judith Mummert, and her husband Allen.
Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Brevard Parkinson's Alliance or to the Naval Submarine League.
