Jerome (Jerry) John Diakow, of Viera, FL, passed away peacefully on August 28th, 2026, surrounded by the people who loved him most—his beloved wife and children.

Born on December 5th, 1945, in Chicago, IL, Jerry lived a life filled with love, laughter, and devotion to his family. He was a beloved husband, proud father of three, and cherished grandfather of six. His family and friends were the center of his world, and there was nothing that brought him more joy than the time he spent with those he loved.

Jerry Diakow was truly full of life. He had a kind heart, a great sense of humor, and an incredible ability to make those around him laugh. He was the kind of person whose presence could light up a room and whose love could always be felt by the people closest to him. He leaves behind countless memories filled with laughter, stories, and moments that his family and friends will carry with them forever.

Jerry, a veteran, proudly served in the Army from 1967 to 1971 and was stationed in Ft. Leonard Wood, Missouri. A talented drummer, he played in the band “People’s Choice”, and lived out his rockstar era with pride. Jerry began his career in the produce industry at the age of 16, and remained in the food industry until he retired in 2011.

A lifelong Chicago sports fan, Jerry was a devoted supporter of the Chicago Cubs and Chicago Bears. He was also a lifelong Neil Diamond fan and loved watching old westerns and enjoying a good ol’ Chicago-style pizza and a beef and sausage combo. Whether he was watching his favorite team, listening to music, or relaxing with family, Jerry knew how to appreciate life’s little moments and make the most of them.

Above all, Jerry will be remembered for the tremendous love he had for his family. He is survived by his beloved wife, Brenda Diakow; his children, David Diakow (Carrie Diakow), Lisa Douros (David Douros), and Robert Staerk (Alison Staerk); his grandchildren, Ramsie Staerk-Monk, Ryan Douros (Jordan Douros), Sarah Diakow, Lindsey Douros, Brianna Staerk, and Zachary Staerk; as well as many other family members and friends who will miss him dearly. He was preceded in death by his parents, Emil and Anna Diakow and brother, Emil Diakow (Sonny).

His children remember most a Dad who loved them fully, unconditionally, and with every piece of his joyous soul. His smile, endless support and open arms will forever be missed.

One of Jerry’s greatest joys in life was becoming a Grandpa/Papa. Also known affectionately by so many as “Papa Chippie”, he brought endless laughter, love, and energy into their lives. He will be remembered for his sense of humor, countless play fights, endless goofy jokes, loving phone calls, and random drive-by visits. Whether he was unapologetically singing at the top of his lungs or offering thoughtful and purposeful advice, Grandpa had a special way of making each of his grandchildren feel loved. The memories they shared with him will forever hold a special place in their hearts.

While his family mourns the loss of a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and friend, they find comfort in the beautiful life he lived and the love he leaves behind. Jerry’s kindness, humor, laughter, and larger-than-life spirit will live on in the hearts of everyone who knew and loved him. He will be deeply missed, forever remembered, and always loved. His family will hold him close in their hearts, cherish every memory, keep telling all the stories and look forward to the day when goodbye becomes “Hello Again.”
