Linda Joyce
Trasport
Sep 14, 1950 — May 3, 2026
Linda Joyce (Butcher) Trasport, 75, of Merritt Island, FL, went home to the Lord on May 3, 2026. She was born on September 14, 1950 in Weston, WV, to the late Lehman and Lucille (McPherson) Butcher. In February 1971, she met John Trasport and after a whirlwind courtship married seven months later. They were married for 54 years.
While she worked a variety of jobs at insurance companies or as a secretary – even in the office at American Cabinet Mill and Supply, the Trasport family business, her true calling was the life she built with Johnny. There was joy in every corner of her home. It was the place where you could find all of her children Katie and John's friends gathering on the weekends, where sauce was on the stove every Sunday, where music was playing loud enough to entertain the neighbors too, and where the furniture could be pushed to the side to make room for Linda to dance or do a cartwheel.
She was the kindest and most beautiful woman her husband ever met, and she drew people to her, even to her last days, with her welcoming smile and her laughter. If you've never been pulled onto the dance floor by Linda, you probably weren't in arm's reach. Part of her physical therapy when she was recovering from a brain aneurysm in 2001 was dancing to Rod Stewart's music with her nurses. Her nieces on both sides of the family called her Auntie Sunshine. She is full of sunshine, her oldest granddaughter was surprised that her favorite color was red, not yellow.
She was smart and curious and resourceful. She would say that she was no artiste, but she was an at-home seamstress with skills that rivaled the pros. She was impressive in the kitchen too, the neighbor kids shocked that she only ever made cookies from scratch. She joked that before the internet her father-in-law would call her for help on the daily crossword because she knew everything, but it wasn't much of a joke. She did know nearly everything – and anything she didn't know off the top of her head, she could find in one of the almanacs or trivia books on the shelf in her living room. It was fitting for her other hobbies: Scrabble, crossword puzzles, and reading.
Linda is survived by her husband, John Trasport of Merritt Island, FL; her daughter Katie (Mike) Livemore of Mims, FL; her son John (Heather) Trasport of Merritt Island, FL; her grandchildren Reese, Mia, Kellen, Luke, and Jack; her siblings Wendell (Shirley) Butcher of Derry, NH; Dale (Wanda) Butcher of Loxahatchee, FL; brothers- and sisters-in-law Fred (Janice) Trasport of Conway, SC; Mark (Jackie) Trasport of Murrells Inlet, SC; Michelle Trasport-Gonzalez of Anaheim, CA; Richard Trasport Rochester, PA; David (Rhoda) Trasport of Hopewell, PA, and a large extended family. She is preceded in death by her parents, her siblings Kay and David, her father- and mother-in-law Fred and Gayle Trasport.
A celebration of life will be held at East Coast Christian Center Chapel in Merritt Island, FL on June 13, 2026 at 12:00 pm.
