Obituary

Mark Hamberger, 76, of Cape Canaveral, Florida, passed away on March 20, 2026, with his wife by his side. Mark and Lu were married on November 20, 2021.

With heavy hearts—and a few smiles thinking of his stories—we remember a man who left behind a legacy of laughter, love, and quiet strength.

Born in Buffalo on October 22, 1949, Mark was someone who truly stood out—not just in presence, but in character. He had a way of making people feel good just by being around him. His smile was easy, his laughter contagious, and he never needed to be the loudest in the room to be the most memorable.

Mark proudly served his country in the United States Air Force for 21 years, retiring with the rank of Master Sergeant. During that time, he earned his Master's Degree in Meteorology and built a career doing what he loved. After his military service, he continued working for another 20 years with the United States Postal Service, carrying that same sense of dedication and reliability into everything he did.

He loved the Buffalo Bills, enjoyed time on the golf course, and appreciated life's simple pleasures—but more than anything, he loved his people.

In his later years, life brought him to Lu, and together they created something truly special. Their love was undeniable—an amazing partnership that filled their days with joy, laughter, and memories that will last far beyond a lifetime. Even though their time together was not long enough, it was full in all the ways that mattered most.

Mark is survived by his beloved wife, Lucille "Lu" Hemond; his step-son, Ryan Moreau, and daughter-in-law, Amy Moreau; his cherished cats, Bella and Sonni; and grandpuppy Bowie. He is also lovingly remembered by his extended family and many dear, lifelong friends in Buffalo who meant so much to him throughout his life. He was preceded in death by his parents, Marie and Melvin Hamberger, his brother Paul, and his sister Claudia.

He was a man of pride and honor, a veteran, a husband, a friend—and someone who left a lasting mark on everyone lucky enough to know him.

In true Mark fashion, we imagine he'd say not to make too big of a fuss—but maybe to share a laugh, tell a good story, and raise a glass in his honor.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Tuesday, April 7, at 1:00 PM at Cocoa Beach Community Church, 125 S. Atlantic Avenue, Cocoa Beach, followed by a gathering at Ellie Mae's Tiki Bar, 116 Jackson Ave, Cape Canaveral, FL 32920. All who knew and loved Mark are welcome.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Matthew's Hope Homeless Shelter, 825 Forest Ave., Cocoa, FL 32922, or to the SPCA of Brevard, 6035 Sisson Rd., Titusville, FL 32780.
