Miriam Brigida Lopez (October 8, 1936-March 14, 2026) Our hearts ache as we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Miriam. Through this collective sorrow, we find joy and gratitude in the life she lived and the memories she left behind. Born in Cienfuegos, Cuba, to Ana and Sergio Fernandez, Miriam was the eldest child, arriving nine years before her sister, Donaida. In March of 1955, Miriam married Aldo Lopez, with whom she built the foundation of a family that would become the center of her world. In 1970, she and Aldo made the courageous decision to leave Cuba for the United States, seeking a better life and greater opportunities for their children. She worked tirelessly in retail, cleaned homes, and launched her own cantina service, cooking the delicious meals she was known for. After Aldo's passing in 1990, Miriam persisted, moving forward with resilience, loyalty, and fortitude. Miriam was a woman of strength and candor. She was honest, straightforward, and, though she may have denied it, she was brave in the face of life's adversities. She loved her family fiercely, especially her children: Lydia (Al-both deceased), Aldo, Ana (Jorge), and Alex (Isabel). Her love was constant and undeniable through her actions, sacrifices, and devotion. Miriam found comfort in the rhythm of her daily life; she was structured and guided by routine. She looked forward to her morning café con leche, evening glass of white wine, and bedtime snack. She enjoyed watching Spanish television, The Price is Right, and most recently, Panfilo. Miriam had a natural green thumb, effortlessly cultivating and breathing life into any plant that made its way into her home. She was a gifted storyteller who loved reminiscing and sharing stories of her childhood; her memory never faltered. Miriam was also an exceptional cook, infusing the spirit of her homeland into the kitchen. Her frijoles, chicharos, and most anything she prepared carried her unique touch and unforgettable flavors. Birthdays called for her delicious French onion soup, better than any restaurant version. Her meals were made with care and intention, creating a gathering space for conversation, celebration, and memories. Her life was not defined by ease, but by perseverance, courage, and an unbreakable commitment to her family. She will be deeply missed and eternally remembered. In addition to her children and sister, Miriam is survived by four grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. A funeral mass will be held on Friday, April 10th, 2026, at 1 pm, at Our Lady of the Divine Providence Catholic Church, 10205 W Flagler St., Miami, FL. 33174.

Con gran tristeza en el corazón anunciamos el fallecimiento de nuestra querida madre, Miriam. En medio de este dolor compartido, encontramos alegría y gratitud por la vida que ella vivió y por los recuerdos imborrables que nos deja. Nacida en Cienfuegos, Cuba, hija de Ana y Sergio Fernández, Miriam fue la mayor de la familia, llegando nueve años antes que su hermana Donaida. En marzo de 1955 contrajo matrimonio con Aldo López, con quien construyó los cimientos de una familia que se convirtió en el centro de su mundo. En 1970, Miriam y Aldo tomaron la valiente decisión de dejar Cuba y comenzar una nueva vida en Estados Unidos, en busca de mejores oportunidades para sus hijos. Trabajó incansablemente en ventas, en la limpieza de hogares y emprendió su propio servicio de cantina, preparando esas comidas deliciosas que todos recordamos con cariño. Tras el fallecimiento de Aldo en 1990, Miriam siguió adelante con fuerza, resiliencia y un compromiso inquebrantable. Miriam fue una mujer de carácter, sincera y honesta. Aunque no lo hubiera admitido, fue valiente frente a las dificultades de la vida. Amaba a su familia con pasión, especialmente a sus hijos: Lydia (Al-ambos fallecidos), Aldo, Ana (Jorge) y Alex (Isabel). Su amor se manifestaba en cada acción, sacrificio y devoción por su familia. Encontraba consuelo y alegría en la rutina diaria: su café con leche por la mañana, la copa de vino blanco por la tarde, y una pequeña merienda antes de dormir. Disfrutaba de los canales de España, The Price is Right y, más recientemente, Pánfilo. Tenía un don especial para la jardinería, logrando que cada planta que llegara a su hogar floreciera con fuerza y vigor. Era una narradora nata, siempre compartiendo recuerdos de su infancia en Cuba; su memoria era impecable. Su cocina era un reflejo de su tierra: frijoles, chícharos y casi cualquier plato preparado por ella llevaba su toque único y sabor inolvidable. Los cumpleaños eran ocasión para su exquisita sopa de cebolla francesa, mejor que en cualquier restaurante. Sus comidas reunían a la familia, creando momentos de conversación, celebración y memoria. Su vida no estuvo marcada por la facilidad, sino por la perseverancia, el valor y la entrega total a su familia. Será profundamente extrañada y siempre recordada. Además de sus hijos y su hermana, Miriam deja cuatro nietos, seis bisnietos, sobrinos, sobrinas, primos y amigos que la querían mucho. La misa funeral se celebrará el viernes 10 de abril de 2026, a la 1:00 p.m., en la Iglesia Católica Nuestra Señora de la Divina Providencia, 10205 W Flagler St., Miami, FL 33174.
