Obituary

Raymond Montgomery Lyon, 87, passed away peacefully on July 5, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family. He was born on May 24, 1939, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and lived a long life marked by service, devotion, and quiet strength. He made his home in Media, Pennsylvania, for many years before retiring to Eagles Mere, Pennsylvania, to look after his parents.

Born to Elwyn and Esther Lyon, Raymond was preceded in death by both of his parents. He grew up with the example of hard work and deep commitment shown by his parents, who shared 67 years of marriage.

Raymond shared his life with his beloved wife, Florence Marie Lyon. They were married in 1965 and spent 61 years together, building a home grounded in love, loyalty, and mutual support. Together they created a family legacy that will endure in the values and memories carried forward by those who knew and loved them.

Raymond is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Florence Marie Lyon; his daughter, Donna Pincin, and her husband, Ronald; his daughter, Michelle Wyant, and her husband, Gary; his daughter, Susan Barr-Shepherd; his son, Wayne Lyon, and his wife, Heather; his grandchildren, Ryan, Matthew, Brittany, Jay, Samantha, Andrew, Dawn, Robin, Travis, Allen, and John Paul; several great grandchildren; and by other family members and friends who were proud to share in his life and will cherish his memory. He was predeceased by his son, Michael Lyon, who passed away in 2019, and by his grandson, Ronald, who passed away in 2018.

Raymond attended Upper Darby High School before proudly serving in the United States Navy, answering his country’s call to service. His time in the Navy helped shape the sense of duty, responsibility, and perseverance that guided him throughout his life.

After completing his military service, Raymond began his working career at Curtis Publishing. He later worked for 35 years at Boeing Vertol as an aircraft mechanic, where he was known for his skill, reliability, and strong work ethic. He took great pride in being part of a team that built complex aircraft and in the trust his coworkers placed in him. Raymond retired in 1995, grateful for the career he had built and the friendships he made along the way.

Raymond loved the outdoors and enjoyed boating and nature. He took great satisfaction in building things with his own hands, including a custom boat, a spiral staircase, and a television reflecting both his craftsmanship and his attention to detail. He took pleasure in documenting family and community events and loved photography, a skill he learned from his grandfather, Walter. He enjoyed sharing his life with many dogs and cats over the years.

He will be remembered as a devoted husband, a caring son, a proud father, and a steady presence for his family and friends. Those who knew Raymond will remember his quiet demeanor, his willingness to help, and his readiness to lend a helping hand to family and friends.

Services celebrating Raymond’s life will be held at a later date, with details to be announced by  the family. In lieu of flowers, the family invites those wishing to honor his memory to make a contribution to Eagles Mere Community Church, Eagles Mere, Pennsylvania, or to donate to their local SPCA, in remembrance of Raymond’s generous spirit and his love for animals and community.
