Obituary

Richard Lamar Hildreth, of Cocoa Beach, Florida, passed away on September 2, 2026, at the age of 74. Born on July 7, 1952, in Evergreen, Alabama, to William Hildreth and Dorothy Etheridge Hildreth, Richard lived a life defined by service, kindness, and devotion to those he loved.

Richard proudly served his country in the United States Air Force for 20 years, including service during the Vietnam War. He retired as a Senior Master Sergeant in August 1991, concluding a distinguished military career marked by dedication, leadership, and an unwavering commitment to duty. His service to his country remained one of the proudest aspects of his life and legacy.

Known for his warm personality and generous spirit, Richard never met a stranger. Whether speaking with a longtime friend or someone he had just met, he had a remarkable ability to make people feel welcome. He loved gardening, beekeeping, and lawn care and was always eager to share his knowledge, offer advice, or lend a helping hand to neighbors and friends. His patience, curiosity, and appreciation for nature were reflected in everything he cultivated and cared for.

Above all, Richard cherished his family. He is survived by his beloved wife, Li-Lian Hildreth; his children, Lily Hilfer of Redlands, California, Jade Nakonthap of San Diego, California, Joseph Hildreth of Lititz, Pennsylvania, and Ericka Gaudy of Satellite Beach, Florida; 11 grandchildren; and 2 great-grandchildren. He was one of his grandchildren's biggest cheerleaders, faithfully following their activities, accomplishments, and sporting events. Even when distance kept him from attending in person, he found ways to watch from afar and made sure they knew how proud he was.

Richard will be remembered not only for his service to his country but for the way he lived each day: loving his family, helping his neighbors, sharing his knowledge, and always making time for a conversation. His legacy of kindness, generosity, and quiet devotion will live on in the many lives he touched. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by his family, friends, and community.

A memorial service with military honors will be held on September 28, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Cape Canaveral National Cemetery, 5525 U.S. Highway 1, North Mims, Florida 32754. Family and friends are welcome to attend as they gather to celebrate Richard's life and honor his service and legacy.

"A life well lived is measured not only by accomplishments, but by the lives touched along the way. Richard's kindness, wisdom, and love leave a lasting legacy in all who knew him."
