Obituary

Robert (Bob) Hill of Merritt Island, FL, joined the Church Triumphant on November 2nd, 2025, after courageously living with Alzheimer's disease for 19 years.

Bob was born on January 16th, 1946, in Santa Monica, California, to Bob and Jean Hill. He attended the University of California, Santa Barbara, graduating with a B.S. in Electrical Engineering. During college, he interned with NASA and went on to spend his entire career there as a rocket scientist. He worked on the Delta Rocket program at Vandenberg Air Force Base before moving to Cape Canaveral, where he contributed to the Shuttle program, Department of Defense projects, and was instrumental in the building and launching of the International Space Station. He received numerous medals for his work, some of which remained classified for many years.

Although Bob was deeply committed to his work, it never defined him. Being a husband and father was his true calling. He always made time for his family—taking vacations, spending days at the pool, and (sometimes reluctantly) playing card and board games. He was a devoted husband and partner to Sandy, who filled their marriage with laughter. He enthusiastically supported his children, Patti, at gymnastics and swim meets, and Bob, at baseball, football, and basketball games. At the many pool parties hosted by the Hill family, he was the star of the grill and the center of fun, joyfully tossing children into the air so they could splash down—always laughing—into the water. Bob cherished his grandchildren and loved spending time with them, whether at Disney World or simply spending time with them playing together.

Bob's faith was the center of his life. He lived out that faith as an active member, elder, and Sunday School leader at Merritt Island Presbyterian Church. When Sandy became pastor of Church of the Good Shepherd Presbyterian Church, he volunteered as a leader for the Adult Bible Study and served as the resident technology guru. Bob was also active in Via de Cristo, where he gave talks and led singing with his guitar. He passed his faith on to his children—in word and example.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Robert (Bob) Milne Hill and Jean Louise Fetherolf Hill. Those who continue to love and miss him are his wife of 52 years, Sandy Hill; his children, Patti Vigeant (Ray) and Bob Hill (Stephenie); his sister, Suzanne Graham; and his grandchildren, Jake Vigeant, Katie Vigeant, Bobby Hill, and Maddie Hill.

A celebration of life will be held Saturday, February 14th at 11am at Merritt Island Presbyterian Church.

If you would like to send a memorial gift, please do not send flowers. Donations may be made to Merritt Island Presbyterian Church (Merritt Island, FL) or Church of the Good Shepherd Presbyterian Church (Melbourne, FL). But most of all, to truly remember Bob, smile and laugh, thinking of the good times we were blessed to share with him.
