COCOA
In loving memory, we honor the life of Shirley Slater McCarter, who peacefully departed this world on July 5, 2026, surrounded by family and embraced by the love of her Savior, Jesus Christ, after a brief illness. Born on October 21, 1936, in Charleston, West Virginia, Shirley was preceded into God’s Kingdom by her loving parents, Noble and Murrell Jenkins and sisters Delores Walker and Janet Mollett.
Shirley was a woman of devotion and grace. Her life was marked by a deep love for her family. She was married to her first love, Billy Slater, on July 17, 1953, and they shared a beautiful life in Germany, West Virginia and Florida together until his passing on July 25, 1991. Finding love a second time, she married Don McCarter on May 1,1993, and enjoyed their time together until he too was called home.
A dedicated woman and mother, Shirley began her career at home before becoming a Mobil Oil Dealer in 1991. She retired and was an independent woman, living on her own. Shirley was
a woman of faith, actively participating in the Church at Asbury Arms, Cocoa Methodist, and Cross Bridge Church of the Nazarene.
Shirley found joy in ceramics, painting, and word games.
Shirley's legacy lives on through her beloved daughters, Toni Lynch and her husband Robert and Kathy Clark; her treasured grandchildren, April Dunn and husband David, and Robert Lynch, Jr and his wife Tiffany and her six great-grandchildren, who brought her endless joy and pride and several nieces and nephews.
A service to celebrate Shirley's life will be held on August 15, 2026, at 2:00 PM at Cross Bridge Church, located at 651 Barnes Blvd, Rockledge, FL 32955. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly suggests donations be made to a charity of your choice.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate staff at Cape Canaveral Hospital Hospice, who provided exceptional care and comfort to Shirley and her loved ones during her final days.
Shirley's life was a blessing to all who knew her. Her kindness, grace, and steadfast faith will be remembered and cherished forever. She will be deeply missed but lovingly remembered by her family and friends.
