Susan M.
Blake
Jan 10, 1954 — Oct 30, 2026
It is with profound anguish and immeasurable love that we share the passing of Susan Meara Blake, who departed this realm on Friday, October 30th, at the age of 72. A beloved wife, mother, sister, aunt, and friend, Susan lived an extraordinary life filled with adventure, laughter, and a love that will endure in the hearts of all who cherished her.
Born in Leavenworth, Kansas, in 1954 to her loving parents and devout Catholics, Ginny and William Meara, Susan spent much of her childhood traveling the globe as part of a military family. Alongside her siblings, William, John, Mary Ann, and Thomas, she collected countless memories of laughter, mischief, and childhood adventures wherever life took them. In 1967, her family settled in Merritt Island, Florida, where she later graduated from Merritt Island High School in 1972.
Shortly thereafter, Susan met the love of her life, Thomas Milton Blake. Together, they built a life rooted in love, devotion, and unwavering loyalty, standing beside one another through all of life's joys and hardships. They raised five children—Thomas, Joseph, Kile, Michael, and Shannon. Susan embraced motherhood wholeheartedly, finding immense joy and purpose in nurturing her children. She ensured they never went without love, comfort, or reassurance, filling their lives with laughter, unconditional affection, and the warmest of hugs.
Susan possessed a nurturing spirit and a vivacious personality capable of brightening even the darkest of days. She had an extraordinary ability to sense what others were feeling without a single word being spoken, offering comfort and understanding when it was needed most. Her incomparable sense of humor could dissolve tension in an instant, and she delighted in bringing laughter to those around her. Though life presented her with profound challenges, she met them with resilience and grace, emerging with an even greater capacity for empathy, compassion, and love. Though Susan has departed this earthly realm, her spirit will remain woven into the beauty of the world around us. She will continue to live on in the moments of warmth of the sun against our skin, the gentle breeze that graces through the Spanish moss, the raindrops from a midday storm, the passiflora that blooms each spring, and the cardinals that will appear in random places. In every sunset that paints the sky and every quiet moment spent beneath the stars, we will find her presence there with us. For a love as boundless as hers cannot simply cease to exist; it transforms, becoming part of everything beautiful that surrounds us. “For what is it to die but to stand naked in the wind and to melt into the sun?
And what is it to cease breathing but to free the breath from its restless tides, that it may rise and expand and seek God unencumbered?
Only when you drink from the river of silence shall you indeed sing.
And when you have reached the mountain top, then you shall begin to climb.
And when the earth shall claim your limbs, then shall you truly dance.” - Kahlil Gibran, On Death
A service will be held graveside, 12:30PM, Thursday, November 12, 2026, in Georgiana Cemetery - Merritt Island.
