Honoring Those Who Served

At Island Cremations & Funeral Home, we are proud to help families honor the service and sacrifice of their loved ones who served in the United States Armed Forces. We handle all military arrangements on your behalf - at no additional charge.

Our Role

We Handle the Arrangements for You

It is the funeral director's responsibility to coordinate all military funeral honor arrangements with the appropriate branch of service. This does not incur any extra charges. All you need to do is bring in the veteran's discharge papers (DD214) and we will handle the rest. If you pre-arrange with us, we will make a copy for your file.

Honors & Recognition

The Burial Flag & Presidential Memorial Certificate

Two of the most meaningful tributes provided to eligible veterans and their families.

Burial Flag

A United States flag is provided by the VA at no cost, to be draped on the casket or urn of the deceased veteran. It is presented as a mark of respect to honor the service the veteran gave to the country.

After the service, the burial flag is generally presented to the next of kin. An application using VA Form - United States Flag for Burial Purposes is required. We will prepare this on your behalf.

Presidential Memorial Certificate

Signed by the current President of the United States, the Presidential Memorial Certificate is an engraved paper certificate that honors the memory of deceased veterans who are eligible for burial in a National Cemetery.

Applications can be made in person, by mail, or by fax. We will be glad to assist you in completing and submitting this application.

Financial Assistance

VA Burial Allowances

The Veterans Administration provides a flat-rate monetary burial allowance for eligible veterans. The amount depends on several factors.

Allowance Eligibility Factors

The amount of allowance is dependent upon factors including whether the veteran's death was service-related, whether it was a non-service-related death, and when the death occurred.

To find out if you are eligible for a Burial Benefit, you will need to complete VA Form - Application for Burial Benefit. We will help you with this process.

Headstones, Markers & Medallions

The VA can provide headstones, markers, and medallions to any unmarked grave of an eligible veteran in any cemetery, anywhere in the world - regardless of the date of death.

If a National Cemetery, state Veterans' Cemetery, or Military Post/Base Cemetery is chosen, a headstone or marker will be organized by the cemetery officials based on inscription information provided by the next of kin.
